Blog, and You Shall Be Nominated and Tagged V

Oops, here I am again with another one of these posts! This is a biggie, so please brace yourselves.

Several weeks back, I was tagged by twinsouls888 to share a photo. I should look for the tenth image in my first photo folder. She had hoped that it would be an FOTD.

Many of you would recognise this painting. It’s Girl with a Pearl Earring painted by Johannes Vermeer in ca 1665. I took this photo (without flash, of course!) when I visited The Mauritshuis in The Hague in 2007. I'm intrigued by the many stories and theories behind this painting and who the sitter was. Thanks for the tag, twinsouls888. Well, it is a face, but it ain’t mine, I’m afraid.

I pass this photo tag to the ladies with the following blogs:

Asian Beautifier
Clearly Beautiful
Delancefashion Blog
Nails by Asami
YELLOWJELLYBABY

I was also passed a Getting to Know You tag by Grace London. In addition to that, Linda Phuong Tran, The Beautifier and Imo had nominated me for The Haute Mess Award which coincidentally also requires me to share seven random facts about myself. I did a similar tag months before, so a couple of these here may be an expansion of them:

1. I love the Siberian tiger. I think it is the most beautiful animal in the world.

2. My favourite painter of all time is Rembrandt, the master of light and shadow. One of my missions in life is to see upclose as many Rembrandt paintings as possible before I die. I have seen many but there are still others to be hunted down.

3. I take great pleasure in eating and I’m quite adventurous with food. My husband is convinced that I really live only to eat.

4. My taste in music covers a wide spectrum but if I had to choose one favourite piece, it would be a classical one: the Second Movement of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7. Some people find this piece morbid. Poignant, yet proud and uplifting is how I would describe it.

5. I once spent six weeks exploring Australia. I had relatives there but for the most part, I was backpacking on my own. Six weeks was long but not long enough. I totally enjoyed my time there and I would love to go there again (among other countries) to see the parts of Australia that I haven’t seen.

6. My favourite subject in school was Mathematics. On the other hand, I can't draw to save my life, except for this!

7. I enjoy reading historical fiction. One of my favourite authors in this genre is Diana Gabaldon with her Outlander series as it’s known in the US (in the UK, it’s published as Cross Stitch) set mainly in eighteenth century Scotland. History, adventure, romance and a bit of fantasy time travel thrown in!

Thank you, ladies, for this tag. I’m passing this on to the ladies whose blogs are:

beauty parler
Beauty Scribbler
Bows and Hearts and a Whole Heap More.
So full of twilight dreams that glitter
The Glamorous Gleam

Next, I was given the You’re A Doll Award by Georgie, Beauty Scribbler and The Beautifier. Gosh, thank you so much ladies. For this, I have to name a character in a book or movie that I’m most like. Hmmm, I found this a tough one. I would say Pi in Yann Martel’s Life of Pi. It’s a strange answer, perhaps, as I’m not a boy and I’ve never been shipwrecked. However, Pi is quirky in his thoughts and he spent time adrift at sea in a lifeboat with a Bengal tiger (among other animals) he named Richard Parker. I can relate to that quirkiness and the tiger? I have a soft spot for tigers and I can see myself spending a challenging time with a tiger like that (I told you I have quirky thoughts!).

For this award, I nominate the ladies behind these blogs:

Delhi’s Beauty Addict
French Sweets
Itsura -- Beauty and Beyond! :)
Lipstick Rules
Shop N’ Chomp

The Beautifier, Imo and Georgie have also passed me the Happy 101 Tag. From tris1978ton, I got a similar Happy Tag. Thanks! So, here are the ten things that make me happy:

1. My family. Spending time with those near and dear to me always makes me happy.
2. Cooking. I love experimenting in the kitchen.
3. Eating. With cooking, comes eating!
4. Visiting art museums. If it’s not already obvious, I love admiring paintings of old masters.
5. Photography. I find it fun to challenge myself to see things with a different eye.
6. Movies. Cuddling up with my hubby to watch a movie gets me in a happy mood.
7. Travelling. The world is for us to explore!
8. Long walks. Walking frees the mind and relaxes me. I could walk for hours.
9. Driving long distance. It has the same effect on me as walking.
10. Makeup. Two years ago, this would have been the farthest thing on my mind. Now, browsing in beauty stores makes me happy. Buying makeup makes me even happier!

I pass the Happy 101 tag to the ladies with these blogs:

Beauty Inside & Out
London Makeup Girl
NaTGN
Not so addicted to beauty
The Diva’s Polish

One Lovely Blog is yet another award that has come my way courtesy of Beauty Scribbler, Imo and The Beautifier. Beauty Scribbler had also nominated me for the I Love Your Blog Award which I have previously featured. Thank you, thank you and thank you!

I pass the One Lovely Blog Award to:

Bebo... wearing eyeshadow, baking, making... and whatnot
fresh.elle
Naïve Nails
Nefertari’s Sparkles
oogle makeup

OK, one last one. Last weekend, I was informed by KONADomania that I was on her list of receipients of the Best Blog Award. Thank you! With this award, I’m supposed to pass this on to lovely bloggers whom I’ve recently discovered. Here are just a few:

Black nail polish and lip gloss
{ e.motion in: motion; }
KONADomania (right back at you!)
LACQUERIZED.
My Makeup Blog: makeup, skin care and beyond

Phew! If you are still reading this, thank you for your perseverance. I did say it was a big one! Thank you to all the ladies who’ve nominated and/or tagged me. To the ladies with nominations and tags, have fun with them! As always, if awards and tags are not your thing or if you’ve already featured the award or tag on your blog, that’s absolutely fine.

I have always wanted to see that painting. I just couldn't get there while I was living in Europe, for time and money didn't allow it. I'm so jealous!

I heard abt Vermeer. His portrait painting has a very deep message especially the eyes of the person.. as u look into the eyes, she seemed to have many untold stories. That's my impression when looking at his painting

Ooh thanks for the tag! You've collected quite a lot there!

Haha, my fiancé is convinced I only live to eat as well. Whenever we eat out, we always end up embarrassed because of the amount of dishes we've ordered, that the staff can't fit onto our table.

@Natalie
Ha ha! Long indeed! That's the problem with waiting too long to do an award/tag post. They tend to stack up. :) You're welcome! :)

@Dreams That Glitter
You're welcome. Yes, London certainly has quite a number of Rembrandt's paintings. I especially love going to the National Gallery, Room No. 24 to be exact. :)
