Adorned Nails: KOH Flamingo

I purchased this nail polish back in January and I’ve shown a tiny swatch of it before but well, tiny images don’t count, right? So, here, you will see the real deal.

However, before I get on with it, I just thought it’s worth mentioning that a lovely reader by the name of Anni had told me several weeks ago about her taking the plunge with Flamingo after seeing my tiny swatch. Anni was so pleased with this colour on her nails. She even said she had never received so many compliments before.

Well, Anni, I can totally understand why.

Flamingo is one of only two matte colours that KOH has released so far (the other being a black). It is certainly a colour that never fails to catch your eye. Is it red? Is it bright pink? Is it coral? Is it neon? Hmm, me thinks it’s all of those! If you’ve ever seen a pink flamingo, especially one which has had a diet rich in carotenoid proteins, then you’d know what I mean.

I can’t say that it’s a very matte matte though. As you can see from the images shown here, it does have a slight sheen to it. It’s like that bit of sheen that you would normally see on rubber gloves. I suppose that’s the best way to describe it.

I thought the consistency of Flamingo was just perfect for easy polishing. You can easily get away with just two coats but here, I decided to do three. This is one intense nail colour, I tell you. All the images here were taken in daylight.

And since I can’t get my hands off my stamping plates, I decided to stamp some cute little flowers using an old white nail polish and the Essence Nail Art Stampy Set: 02 Have Fun!.

The end effect rather reminds me of the dainty silk flowers of the kanzashi that are worn in traditional Japanese hairdos. The flowers here are so shy, they almost need coaxing to show themselves on my nails!

    My pleasure! Fyi, in my case, this is actually the first (two) matte nail polish I own. There's always a first for everything! :)

    Ha ha, no, it's not Buddha. It's a little statue of a boy monk, actually. :D

    @Carine
    I'm happy that this colour is to your liking. I must admit that the eye does take a while to get used to looking at a matte polish. It's such a different creature! :)

  6. Now, I've not been a fan of matte polishes, it's not you; it's me. BUT, I would be very tempted with this one. It just looks right. The colour and the bottle with the matte glass looks excellent. All about asthetics, right? The stamping looks so, so pretty - it completes the mani and it's beautiful!

    Mattes aren't really that bad, especially if it's a bright shade like this. You do notice the bright colour much more than the fact that it's matte.

    I too love the frosted glass for this bottle. It's just so appropriate here. I'm glad you like this mani, Danielle. :)
