Adorned Nails: KOH Blue Universe

I bought this months back but, sadly, never got round to wearing it. I just needed a little nudge really and that came a few days ago after an email conversation with a lovely reader. I'd like to refer to her by name, but perhaps it is not her wish to be named here. Well, this one's for you.

KOH Blue Universe comes from the same family as KOH Bronzation. It looks foil-like from a distance and even though the blue doesn't look half bad in the sun, this polish is not something you should admire in direct sunlight. Its real beauty is drowned out by all that metallic shine.

Blue Universe is a polish best viewed in the shade.

Like Bronzation, Blue Universe has randomly-shaped flakies. However, Bronzation also has small uniform-sized round flakies which are absent in Blue Universe. Instead, the latter is just dense with silver micro-glitters.

It applied well and was almost opaque in two coats (three would be better). I however did four on the ring finger (image above) just to get more flakies on. The flakies are dark pink/copper when seen upfront, and yellow and green when viewed at an angle.

Cosmic blue universe on nails is what you could call this.

  1. WOW! You know, up close that looks like a semi-precious gemstone...like the kind that comes out of volcanos - similar to granite. VERY pretty. What a generous reader!

    Haha, yes, a kind of blue granite, I suppose. Umm, I have a feeling you may have misread the first paragraph. This bottle was simply my own purchase. :)

    @Toesthattwinkle
    Thanks! :)

    @KTee
    Yes, yes, I totally know what you mean about them flakies flaunting their cosmic prettiness. Hee hee!

    @Paulina
    I'm glad you like this one, Paulina. :)

    @Anutka
    It's quite fascinating to look at all those flakies juxtaposed against the dizzying blue, isn't it? :)

  7. @Nikki
    Hoi Nikki! Bedankt! Eerlijk gezegd, is het wel wat makkelijker om een mooie foto te maken van een nagellak, als die van zichzelf al zo mooi is hoor. :D Ja, leuk idee! Ga maar eens kijken of je er één kan aanschaffen. Er zijn ook nog een paar andere kleuren met flakies. Ik heb ze thuis, maar ik heb ze nog niet laten zien in een artikel. :)

    @sugar sugar
    I agree. This is a pretty one. I'm slapping myself for having waited so long to wear this. :P

    @Nicole
    Yeah, those darned flakies seem to be getting us all mesmerised! Oh, I'm sure if you googled this, you will find many other polishes with pretty flakies. Too many! :D

  11. I think I just died. This polish is beyond amazing and I wish I could get my hands on it!!!!!!!

  12. @Skulda
    No, no, a nail polish is certainly not worth dying for, no matter how funky it is. Breathe, Skulda, breathe! :)

  14. @Appu
    Thanks so much, Appu! Well, with good enough lighting, a polish this beautiful would photograph nicely any which way. :D

    @MartianDelights
    Yay, I'm glad this is to your taste! :)

  16. 8B Om van te watertanden! Holy boomsticks, that's a pretty polish! It makes me wish for ubercurvy nails so regardless of which angle you look at, all the colours in the flakies come out as pretty as it does in the bottle pictures :x.
    I really need to stop looking at swatches, they make me want too many polishes and I only have ten nails to paint :p.

    That's great! I'm glad you like it, Natalie. :)

    @Adis
    Twenty, if you count your toes (I mean, we're talking about nail polish here, not nail art). Fyi, there are a few more that I haven't shown yet. Hmmm, you had better not look when I post them later (goodness knows when!). Anyway, I would think that you can re-create such looks with your Golden Rose flakies, no? After all, it's about layering those flakies on your choice of colour. Endless possibilities! :D

  18. Lovely polish! The closeup really looks like a picture of the universe. The only thing missing is a little spaceship ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  19. @PolishSis
    Yes, yes, a spaceship would have completed the picture. It doesn't have to be little. Something along the lines of Battlestar Galactica would do. :D

  20. I could layer, but I'm lazy at heart :D! Why layer when you can just get it straight from the bottle :D?
    But I accept your challenge :p! I'll try to figure a way to recreate this :p. (But it has to wait for now, my poor nails have been in blegh condition and I'm trying to grow out a part where I accidentally scooped out a chunk of nail O_o;... Sorry for the disturbing mental images 8D;;;!)

  21. @Vonvon
    It's an intriguing polish for sure. :)

    @Adis
    Haha, it wasn't meant to be a challenge, but all right, go for it. I'm curious to see the results and I'm pretty sure it's achievable. :D OK, I just cringed reading that last part. That must have been quite a trauma (for your finger). Ouch!

  22. *pouting* i'm gonna stop reading your blog! You make my crave for nail polishes (and nails) i'll never have :( :(

  23. ps: loved ur nails and the teeez green nail polish :)

  24. @Kanisha
    Thanks for your kind words, Kanisha! :) Frankly, I get tempted the same way too when I read other ladies' blogs. It does get a bit too much sometimes - too many brands, too many products, too many cool nail polish colours. Where and when does it end? At the rate things are going, probably never. Hmph!

  25. I have no words. WOW that's gorgeous!

  26. @crazyjkix
    I'm glad this one has wowed you. :)

  27. It's gorgeous! Wow. Now I want it... But perhaps I'll try some flakie recreation first....

  28. @DalaLuz
    Yeah, you could try replicating this with the layering method. I'm sure it's possible. :)
