Adorned Nails: KOH Purple Darkness effeminated

Conversation with self
Me: Are you sure you want to post these pictures?!
Witoxicity: No. I know my readers would be disappointed but I've promised them that I would show and tell.
Me: Your stamping work is atrocious! The print is almost invisible and y......
Witoxicity: I prefer to call that 'subtle'. I just didn't realise beforehand how essential it was to use a nail polish with high viscosity.
Me: And your choice of colour is laughable. Pink image using an equally pink stamp? You're such a dimwit! No wonder you couldn't see what you were stamping.
Witoxicity: Well, I just thought the pink would go well with the purple!

I bought KOH Purple Darkness a couple of months back. I believe it was one of six mainly dark and broody colours KOH released for the Winter Collection. Lighter colours can bring some cheer of course, but dark and broody colours are so right up my alley.

KOH Purple Darkness is a purple so dark that it’s almost black in some lighting, yet sometimes I think it's aubergine and at other times, red wine. (R:with flash) After some attempts, I finally managed to capture its purpleness in daylight:

This baby wasn’t the easiest to paint. It was translucent with two coats and uneven and streaky. The breakthrough came with the third coat and voila! His Royal Highness, Prince Purple of the Kingdom of Darkness, except that he's gone sissy.

L: in warm lighting
R: in daylight

Those subtle little flowery curly-wurlies are of course evidence of my tinkering with the Essence Nail Art Stampy Set. Being new to this, I knew I was going to make some stamping mistakes and there were quite a few.....okay, many! Very special thanks go out to Evil Angel, Kirsten and Asami for their invaluable advice given in response to my previous post. I could always do with tips and tricks from the experts! However, since I had already done the stamping before that, I shall only be able to incorporate the advice given in my future stamping endeavours.

Anyway, for the nail art images, I used KOH Flamingo (a matte) and as a top coat, KOH Top Coat Bamboo.

It's not ooh-aah, but it's o-kay for a first attempt. I suppose. I'll be there in the corner cowering in shame if you need me.

  6. @Miss Tapia
    Thank you! I like this colour combination. It was just a pity that the pink lost its intensity in the process. :)

    @London's-beauty
    Thanks! This pink is actually the lightest colour that I have in my collection at the moment. I just have too many dark ones! :D

    @Bea
    Thank you. You're very kind. The pink here turned out too translucent for the image, hence looking subtle. ;D Better luck next time!

    @Michèle
    Heh heh, thanks! Yes, KOH Flamingo is indeed a matte in a frosted glass bottle. They have one other matte which is a black. :)

    @Linda
    Thank you. I like the curly-wurlies too. I will be trying out the other designs on the image plate in the days to come. I hope to show more later. :D

  12. Whats wrong with subtle? :D I think it's awesome. I'm not into nail art, because working in professional environment, I cannot have my nails distract ppl I am talking with... But such subtle stuff is appropriate for anyone =D

    Thanks! Actually, in real life, the images are even less noticeable than in these pictures here. So, I can see that being worn to work without being distracting at all. :D

    @Lavender
    Thank you, my dear. The confidence will build up over time with more practice. Yes, I will certainly show more of these in future. :)
