My First Nail Art Image Plate

.....and it’s a NOKONAD.

No, I’m just pulling your leg. “I’ve been sucked into the KONAD vortex” is what I’m trying to say! All you lovely nail bloggers are bad influences!

I had been looking into buying some KONAD image plates – they look like a lot of fun – but before I could order, I stumbled upon this at the local drugstore, Kruidvat. It was for only €2.99, so I couldn’t let that pass. I thought it would be great to give me a taste of what KONAD-ing would be like. If I didn’t like it or if I couldn’t master it, I wouldn’t be devastated.

Here’s the Essence Nail Art Stampy Set. There were two choices of image plates available. I chose the one called 01 Be Creative!. On the box, it says “improved result” which made me wonder what that means. Did they have an older version of this that flopped miserably? I bought it anyway but with some doubts.

In the box were an image plate with seven images, a stamp and a scraper. Hmm, don’t the contents look very familiar to you?

I’ve been playing with this new toy. I think this Stampy Set is all right. I have no reference point though as I’ve never used KONAD before. The scraping took some getting used to, which I finally got right. I still need to practise the stamping. Awh, and I thought the stamping would be the easiest part! Plus I haven’t got those super-thick nail polishes more suited for stamping. Oh well......

Tomorrow, I will show you the results of my first nail art stamping effort – imperfections and all!

Update: Have a look at the stamping done on an Essence nail polish using the flower design found on the bottom-right of the image plate shown above.

Do also have a look at the results of all my subsequent nail art stamping using the Essence plates.

  3. China glaze romantiques and OMG's are great for stamping. Any heavily pigmented (one coat) polish will usially work well. HTH
    Can't wait to see!

    Stay tuned for the results of my attempt with this KONAD-wannabe set. :D

    @Naoko
    I certainly will, but I hope you're not expecting a huge success overnight. Heh heh!

    @Evil Angel
    Oh, thanks so much for your advice! I'll have to look into that. For now, for my NOTD tomorrow, I'd have to make do with what I have. :)

  5. Some of the Essence Show Your Feet polishes work great with konad too. I just did a mani stamped with Caribean Sea.
    All Access works ok too.

    This set is harder to work with than real konad though. It took me some experimenting to get it to work. Some polishes may need to be left on the plate for a little longer so they thicken a bit.
    I also hate the scraper that comes with the set. I use an old 'bonuskaart' for scraping.

    I can't wait to see what you come up with! This stuff is addictive!

  12. Yay, stamping! It does take a bit of practice but once you get it down it's so fast and the best way to get really detailed and intricate designs. I love stamping. :)

    You probably already have a lot of polishes that will work for stamping. I bought a ton of Konad Stamping Polishes and I mostly use China Glaze for stamping anyway! Try anything you have that's opaque in 1-2 coats and I bet you they work just fine.
