Rituals: Eve's Kiss Silkening Lip Treatment Review

Eve’s Kiss. What an evocative name! Rituals Cosmetics explains (excerpts):

Tempting, tasting, feeling and kissing: your lips play a wealth of sensual roles. And, provided you take care of them, they will remain irresistible. Just as irresistible as the forbidden apple that Eve tasted in Paradise. Rituals took inspiration from this first woman on earth and developed a silky-smooth lip cream.

This ‘lip cream’ is essentially an apple-flavoured (says Rituals) lip gloss with shea butter. I’ve had Eve’s Kiss for many months now, having used it only occasionally. I mean, it has had to jostle for my attention given the ease with which I’ve been hoarding lipglosses of all kinds. Beauty addicts would be familiar with this predicament, no?

I’ve been on the go a lot lately. I’ve deliberately taken with me only two lipglosses, one of which is Eve’s Kiss and by doing so, I could finally do justice to this little white-and-green tube.

Let’s see what else Rituals says about Eve’s Kiss:

Moisturises and protects
• Adds a sensual, shiny touch
• Contains SPF
• Subtle, mouth-watering Apple flavour
• Long lasting softening effect
• Ultra rich creamy texture soothes and protects lips

This is the list of ingredients:

Polybutene, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Glycerin, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Cetearyl Octanoate, C18-36 Acid Triglyceride, Cera Alba/Beeswax, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Butyrospermum Parkii/Shea Butter, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Parfum/Fragrance, Tocopheryl Acetate, Isopropyl Myristate, Ricinus Communis/Castor Oil, Bisabolol, Sodium Saccharin, Farnesol, BHT, CI77891/Titanium Dioxide.

It does say on the tube that it has SPF8. Low protection factor, but I shan’t complain.

The gloss is a thick pearlescent liquid. I give it a thumbs-up for the glossy shine. It’s super glossy!

Because of its thick consistency, I would be careful not to pile on too much as you would tend to notice the unpleasant heaviness on the lips.

It’s pretty longlasting, in my opinion. The gloss does stay intact for at least three hours. There is some fading after a meal, but that’s to be expected.

Okay, this part, I do not like. It’s Stickyville! I unwittingly gave it the Hair In The Wind Test one day (well, it does get pretty windy in the Netherlands). Strands of hair stuck like mad to my lips! Totally annoying!

But, let’s get back to Pleasantville. Eve’s Kiss smells delicious! It’s fruity sweet. Rituals says it’s got apple flavour. I must admit that they’ve lost me there. To me, it’s a lovely fruity scent but it just ain’t apple. I’ve been cracking my head for the longest time (no, really, it’s been months!). I couldn’t put my finger on this familiar yet unfamiliar scent until just a couple of weeks ago. It finally struck me. It smells rather like custard apple. It’s an ‘apple’ nevertheless, but the custard apple looks so far removed from the apple.

Some of you may know what a custard apple is, but if you don’t know, then this is what it looks like. I bought this fruit a few days ago. It's about the size of a tennis ball.

And this is what the yummy flesh inside looks like. White, soft and sweet with black seeds inside.

I’ve digressed, haven’t I?

Eve’s Kiss. Although there’s nothing wrong with using Eve’s Kiss alone on the lips, I tend to use Eve’s Kiss over my lipsticks, especially those darned drying ones. It works really well to keep my lips moist or if I want more shine on my lipsticked lips.

I use Eve’s Kiss only when I go out. When I stay in, I’d rather just use a simple lipbalm like Rituals Lip Treat. I find Eve’s Kiss too shiny, heavy and sticky for home use.

It’s priced at €6.90 for a 15ml tube. Do I recommend Eve’s Kiss? I do. I can live with the stickiness. What has won me over are the lovely custard apple scent, the SPF and the fact that it keeps my lips from drying. For the latter, I can’t say how much of that is due to the presence of shea butter in the formula or simply that the gloss merely formed a protective layer on my lips to keep them from drying out.

I'll be showing you Eve’s Kiss used over some lipsticks in future posts.

Enough said!

  1. thanks for the review. :) you always post a minute before I come on lol! this is the 2nd time. :P

    The custard apple looks a bit like the tiny version of a durian. mm... i never tried it, but I'd lovee to.

    That's quite a coincidence, I must say! :D

    Hmm, while the durian is overpowering and perhaps, "rambunctious", the custard apple is sweet and dainty. Big contrast there! :)

  5. My lips depend on lip balms for years.
    This one may be a good experience, since is 2 in 1, gloss + lip balm.

    Have i told you how cool is your blog?

  6. Nice review!! I have enough lip products to last for a lifetime so I'll restrain from purchasing more.

    And I've never seen custard apple before!! It looks.......mutated. LOOL

  7. I'm like you too - too many lip glosses and balms and still buying. I have favorites for different times of the day as well as seasons (can't stand using minty ones at night - wakes me up). Hope you have a good weekend:)x

  8. Oh no, I love lip products :( This is NOT helping. I have about 20 balms and glosses hidden around the house and in my desk at work. I am VERY naughty when it comes to collecting lip products..... eeek... Danielle :)

    Oh, a fellow custard apple fan! Yay! :D Do share with us your experience when you get to try out Eve's Kiss yourself. :)

    @Dina
    Well, officially, it's supposed to be an apple scent. It's now got a custard apple scent only because that's how my nose interprets it. :D

    @Helena
    Gosh, you're so sweet, Helena. Thank you for saying that. :)

    Eve's Kiss does do well to keep my lips from drying out. So, it's a 2-in-1 indeed! :)

    @~Lisa
    Thanks! Oh, I think you're a very good girl for restraining yourself from buying anymore of these mmm...evil stuff. I should be more like you!

    Ha ha! Mutated?! Well, OK. The first time I set my eyes on this fruit, I kinda cringe. But wait till you taste it, Lisa! It's delish. :D

    @aestheticcoo
    That's interesting, using different lipglosses and balms to suit different times of day and season. My practice is more dictated by where I keep them (and therefore where I am at any one time) - bedroom, handbag, upstairs, downstairs, etc.

    I hope you'll have a great weekend too! :)

    @Danielle
    Eeek, an incurable repeat offender.....just like me! Hee hee! Shame on us! I for one am too afraid to count how many I have in my stash. :P

    @Get Gawjus!
    Thanks! :)

    It's really just a fruity sweet scent but not too sweet that it would make you gag. If you have the chance, do try Eve's Kiss for yourself. :)

  13. I don't really care much for gloss, and I especially hate sticky gloss.
    However, I love anything that smells like food. I think I'm having mixed emotions on this one :D

  14. @Colleen
    I think none of us likes sticky glosses, but with this one, I was willing to forgive its stickiness. The scent is just so yummy! :)

  23. HI, I haven't used this product yet, but looks like is an awesome one to try...

    but have tried the custard apple, there are quite aplenty of those here in the tropics... they're sour but nutritious...

    dropping by...

  24. @Vernz
    Hi, Vernz! Thanks for stopping by. Hmmm.....the custard apples that I've tasted so far were all very sweet. Delicious! :D

  25. I like the idea of an apple flavor. I'm tired of minty glosses. I've never seen (or heard of) a custard apple - kinda looks like an artichoke. Anyway, this sounds like a good lip treatment for night. Thanks for the review!

    My pleasure! One reader mentioned before that the custard apple looked mutated! :D Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this for night use, actually. I think it's too heavy and sticky for that. :)

  27. Oh I am a lip gloss person too. Have a few new unopened ones but still looking for new ones. Eve's kiss sounds like a good product to try but there is none here in this part of the world.

  28. @lavender
    Eve's Kiss is one of the more interesting lipglosses I've ever tried. Unfortunately, I don't think Rituals is available yet where you are. :)

  29. We have a custard apple tree in our backyard. Hmmm I wanna test this on my lips and see what my boyf thinks when we pucker up. :D

  30. Thanks for the review!

    I didnt know it was a Dutch company!

    i had to test their Scrub for a website and I was pleased with it! The smell was gorgeou (blossom) and I liked how it was actually scrubing!

  31. @Janinay
    Oh, another lovely reader with a custard apple tree in the garden! How nice! I envy you, Janinay. :)

    @Ms Bubu
    Yes, Rituals is a Dutch brand. Rituals does have an impressive array of body products (among other things) and they all smell heavenly! How lovely that you had the opportunity to test a body scrub of theirs! :)

  32. Interesting and savvy review! :) I've checked out all of the items on your current giveaway over at rituals.com, and I must say they have a lot of good stuff! I esp love Eve's Kiss as I've been using lip balms/creams since '95. Thanks for sharing this :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. @PringlesPalo
    Thanks, Pringles! Rituals certainly has a very interesting and wide range of gorgeous-smelling beauty products. I find Eve's Kiss to be more of a lipgloss. I've used a lipbalm from them before. It's called Lip Treat SPF10 and I really like it! :)

  34. honestly, i did not know abt this brand. but this looks nice. it can be good for dry or flaky lips esp during the winter.
