Lip Treatment: Rituals Lip Treat SPF10

This little Lip Balm Girl continues on her journey to find her HG lipbalm. Since declaring independence from the notorious (but apparently still very popular) Vaseline, I’ve unwittingly embarked on a mission to find my perfect lipbalm. I’ve spent way too many years using Vaseline and since finding out that it was possible to escape from its clutches, I’ve become rather errr.....fanatic about trying out other lipbalms that are on the market.

I published my first Lip Treatment post four months ago. In it, I featured my first non-petrolatum-based lipbalm. It worked well but I no longer have easy access to this brand (they stopped shipping to the EU). So, I have since moved on to another brand and actually finished one tube in about three months. I will be featuring this one later as this brand has another variant that I’d like to try out first.

Anyway, the lipbalm I’m featuring today is from Rituals. Many of you would already know that it’s a Dutch brand. I’ve been using Lip Treat intensively for a month now and so, I think it’s time for me to share my thoughts on it.

This is the list of ingredients as printed on the box. If needed, please click on the image to enlarge.

I don’t claim to be an expert, but this is what the list of ingredients looks like, broken down and minus the Latin names:

Castor Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, Jojoba Oil, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Candelilla Wax, Stearic Acid, Shea Butter, Sunflower Seed Oil. Eucalyptus Oil, Perppermint Oil, Vitamin E Acetate, Aloe Ferox Extract, Camphor, Menthol, Limonene

Plus the sunscreen agents:
Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate,
Bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenol Triazine, and
Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane.

My Thoughts
I think the casing looks rather sleek and being in black, it's suitable for use by men too. The casing is sturdy, unlike some others with flimsy, often see-through casings and defective twist mechanisms (urgh, I hate it when they go kaput!). The twist mechanism here is a bit loose but it doesn't feel like it's going to give way anytime soon.

I must say that its eucalyptus/minty scent is quite strong at first, so it may be a turn-off for those who don’t fancy this scent. Personally, I’m fine with it. It's almost like having "fresh breath".

I like the fresh and cool sensation it leaves on the lips. The scent doesn't linger very long though, probably less than 15 minutes. The cool sensation lasts about twice as long.

In my opinion, it's neither sticky nor waxy and it doesn't give much of a gloss. I have also been happily using it as a base for the dreaded drying lipsticks.

Although it’s not stated anywhere on the packaging or the Rituals website, I find that applying this lipbalm plumps my lips just a bit. It must be from the peppermint oil, the camphor and/or the menthol. In case you’re wondering, there is no stinging effect that one might associate with lip plumpers.

One application lasts me a good few hours. I don’t need to constantly re-apply. This is what I’ve been applying on my lips before going to sleep too and in the morning, my lips are still soft and not at all dry.

Conclusion
I do give this lipbalm a thumbs up. It has no parabens and the fact that it’s got an SPF (albeit low) is a bonus. I like it that its shea butter is organic but I think it would be even better if Rituals took the organic component further.

The price of Lip Treat is quite all right for the quality that you get. I purchased mine during a sale, so that's even better!

Besides the Netherlands, Rituals is available in Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Portugal, Spain and the UK.

To find out more about this brand, do check out the website of
Rituals Cosmetics. There are several country-specific websites available. The English version is UK-based.

My softlips lip balm went kaput a couple of days ago >.< This one looks like a good replacement, I don't have any others with SPF and I find that quite important especially during summer. Thanks for the review! :)

I can't remember how long i use lip balms. I eally think my lips are addicted to lip balms.
I tried every label in the supermarket, plus Labello, Cibelle, Klorane, Avene and so many others, but they are "just" ok and it turns me off to always have to re-apply.
I went to dermathologist and he said that the best thing to use is really vaseline! I use it, but it goes away from my lips in just a bit!
I'll sure try this one from Rituals! Thanks and kiss!

Glad you like the balm. It's such an essential in the makeup bag.

Great to hear this works well for you! :) My sensitive lips would break out from some of those ingredients unfortunately. *sigh*

This one sounds interesting! But... it's not available in France and there's mint essential oil on lipbalm, it irritate and dries out the skin of my lips. Also I can't use chemical sunscreen anymore...

When I was 17 years old I've started to get big discomfort on my lips, dryness - I've been using lipbalm ever since... During years I've used Laroche-Posay "Ceralip" but it didn't moisturize my lips as it's mineral paraffin based (booh! Laroche Posay is banned from my life!). Mineral oils give a "sliding" effect but don't moisture lips. My lips were looking thiner and thiner... I've also tried the cacao lipbalm from bodyshop, well not strong enough for me.

For now, I'm using Yes to Carrots lipbalm (happily it doesn't scent weird like the creams!). My favorites are Carrot and Agrums. Melon is fine too but I stay away from the mint one. The ingredient list is clean, 95% organic and vegetal butters/oil based. I don't know if it's my perfect lipbalm but to me it is and I'm really loving it. It leaves my lips very soft and nourished. And they look more plump now! So I'm very glad.

Here's the ingredients (for the Carrot balm that was on my pocket). Forgive me: I was too lazy to type the latin names from the tiny font on my tube:

coconut oil, olive oil, beeswax, jojoba seed oil, flavor, sunflower seed oil, shea butter, tocopherol, pumpkn seed extracts, cucumis fruit extracts, Oran ge peel extract, carrot root extracts, [contains linalool, limolene, citronellol, geraniol, citral]

And that's all. :) I hope you'll find a great lipbalm! I've found one after years!

@Beauty Vibes
You're welcome! I hope this Rituals lipbalm would work for you too. :)

@Helena
A few years ago, I would have believed the dermatologist about Vaseline. Not anymore now. I've discovered that there are many other feasible and natural options out there.

Well, it's a good thing you have access to Rituals in Portugal. :D

@tris1978ton
Lipbalms are certainly unmissable in the handbag! :)

@Shop N' Chomp
Never mind, my dear. At least you've found your HG lipbalm in Aquaphor. :)

@Dina
Yes, this is another lipbalm success for me! Yay! :D

@jellynat
I see now that many of us go through a similar process of searching for 'the right one'.

Yes To Carrots lipbalm, eh? Thanks so much for the recommendation and for taking the time to type out the list of ingredients - they all sound very good! That was very sweet of you. :) The common names were just fine (my eyes always glaze over when I see the Latin names anyway). I've seen this lipbalm here in the store but only in small trial-size tubes packaged together with other trial-size Yes To Carrots creams and stuff. I'll have to see if I can find just the lipbalm in the normal size. Thanks again! :)

@The Beautifier
Simple seems like another good brand, but I don't think I've seen it here in the stores, unfortunately.

@Yuvna
Persevere, I say! Try to look for one without mineral oils. I managed to break away from Vaseline with an all-natural one. These days with internet shopping, there are many options available. :)

In natuurwinkels kan je ook kijken naar het merk Urtekram. Zij hebben lippenbalsems zonder spf, maar de meeste ingredienten zijn fair trade..

@Essia
Hoi! Bedankt voor de tip. Ik ga binnenkort even kijken bij de natuurwinkels. :)
