Teeez: Glitter Gossip Lash & Liner Review

The Teeez Glitter Gossip Lash & Liners are a real feast for the eyes. I'm tempted to simply shut up and leave you to take in the visuals of these fancy glittery thingies. And as with all things glittery, we seriously need huge close-up shots.

But of course, I will tell you more.

First, here's what Teeez says (excerpts):

........applies a high concentration of micro glitter particles in one stroke, for an immediate shimmer sensation. The unique packaging combines glitter eyeliner and glitter mascara in one single product........The innovative two-in-one packaging has a unique silicon eyeliner brush with a conical shape that applies a sharp line, the brush with micro grooves applies the perfect amount of glitter on your lashes each time you use it. Quick drying and long lasting without losing glitters.

Ingredients:
Water, triethanolamine, glycerin, acrylates copolymer, propylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, carbomer, ethylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben, phenoxyethanol, butylparaben, polyethylene terephthalate

The three Glitter Gossip Lash & Liner shades that Teeez kindly sent were:

L-R:
At the Park - predominantly neon green and yellow glitters
Take a Taxi - black glitters mixed with specks of green, blue, turqoise, yellow, orange
Ready to Party - silver glitters with specks of blue, pink/lilac

So basically, it's a two-in-one eye product that deposits colourful glitter on your eyelids and on your lashes, and it does it with this bizarre-looking applicator.

Hmm, these applicators remind me of two things: A. Alien tentacles. B. Cactus. I can't decide which one.

Whatever it is, it serves its purpose. The sharp, stiff tip works well enough to line the eyes. The spines bristles are also stiff and fairly sparse, which is fine by me. I really wouldn't want it depositing way too much glitter on my lashes.

The liquid product itself does take quite a while to dry, so in my case (i.e. inward-folding lids), I'd have to be very careful not to open my eyes until the lining is completely dry. I've had some messy mishaps where I opened my eyes too early and the still-wet liner transfered glitter to other parts of my lid. Yikes!

Also, this liner isn't waterproof. On one hand, it's easy to wash off but on the other hand, some glitter would transfer after some time. You'd have lower chances of that happening though if you didn't have my kind of eyelids.

Here are two eye looks using these Glitter Gossip Lash & Liners. For eyeshadows, I used the awesome Catrice Big City Life - The Berlin Collection palette.

At the Park

Other products used:
Catrice Big City Life - The Berlin Collection - am Alex and Ku'damm
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner - Truly Brown
Catrice Lashes to Kill Mascara - Black Green

Take a Taxi together with Ready to Party

Other products used:
Catrice Big City Life - The Berlin Collection - Tiergarten
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner - Black Ink
Catrice Lashes to Kill Mascara - Black Green

In this second eye look, I lined the lashline first with the black Take a Taxi and extended it a bit, waited for it to dry and then drew a short line above it with the silver Ready to Party. As you can see in both looks, I went very, very easy with the glitters on the lashes.

The Glitter Gossip Lash & Liner belongs to the Teeez City Trip collection and is available in 10 shades, of which 3 are neons. Price: €4.79

Catrice: Eye Liner Pen Review

The Catrice Eye Liner Pen has left an impression on me and I'll tell you why.

According to Catrice:
Three new Eye Liner Pens for the trends of the summer: night blue, dark green and mystical grey to complement the classic black. All with a professional felt-tip for an accurate line and magical cat-like eyes.

Ingredients
Aqua, Polyglyceryl-2 Caprate, Acrylates/Acrylamide Copolymer, PVP/ Dimethiconyl Acrylate/Polycarbamyl/Polyglycol Ester, Tric 12-13 Alkyl Citrate, Butylene Glycol, PVP VP/Eicosene Copolymer, Propylene Glycol, Tromethamine, Oleic Acid, Stearic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben.
May contain: CI 16035 (Red 40 Lake), CI 42090 (Blue 1 Lake), CI 77266 (Black 2), CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide).

I like this pen. Really, I do.

It's a pen with a semi-flexible felt-tip. The eyeliner is not waterproof but if kept dry, the lining stays fairly intact the whole day. There is a bit of colour transfer to the upper parts of my lid but I won't hold that against Catrice. It's an inherent problem of my eyelids - notice how they fold.

The good points:

• With the nice sharp tip, it's easy enough to do wing-ed eyelining.

• It is reasonably priced, only €2.99 a piece.

• The shade that I have is 060 Black Green, a gorgeous, broody deep green, which you can see in this eye look here.

For this look, I used:

Catrice Made to Stay Long Lasting Eyeshadow - Lord Of The Blings
Catrice feMALE Dip Powder Pen - So Suit!
Catrice Eye Liner Pen - Black Green
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner - Black Ink (not shown - for tightlining)
Catrice Lashes to Kill Mascara - Black Green

Okay, now, the not-so-fantastic points:

• Again, it has a felt-tip, which can mean that the 'ink' may not transfer properly sometimes, especially if the eyelids are slightly oily. I use just a minimal amount of eye cream if I know I will be using this eyeliner that morning.

• It stains the eyelids! I've been using this eyeliner many times and it doesn't matter if it is applied on bare lids, on lids with a bit of eye cream or on lids prepped with primer, it always leaves a faint stain on the skin.

The Staining
First time: After removal with a normal eye makeup remover, I could still see a faint green line on my lids. I then attempted to wipe the stain off with a waterproof eye makeup remover but nope, that didn't help. After washing with my facial cleanser, I could still see a faint trace of the green eyelining. Vaseline may have helped but I didn't try it as I don't like having petroleum jelly on my eyes. So, I went to bed that night with that green stain (still with about 10% opacity) on my eyelids. Not funny.

Second time: The same thing happened again and it was then that I knew the first incident was no fluke and that my eye cream and eye makeup removers were not to be blamed.

Now: I don't even blink an eye. I know that by the time I wake up in the morning, most of the stain would be gone, probably due to the oils on my eyelids. I also know that the green stain would be completely washed off with another facial cleansing in the morning.

So, okay, I may like the pen and the shade but that staining thing.........very disappointing. I don't know if the same applies to the other shades and I don't intend to find out.

I'm not getting another one of these pens.

No7: Amazing Eyes Pencil Review

I had a look at the customer reviews of these No7 Amazing Eyes Pencils on the Boots website and it appears that these pencils enjoy pretty good ratings. There were some negative reviews but there were many positive ones: 'favourite eye liner', 'stays on for hours', 'so long wearing', 'doesn't smudge'.

Well, I won't spout forth such words, I'm afraid.

These eyeliner pencils came in a holiday boxset that was issued by No7 in the run-up to Christmas. You've seen those three very pretty but disappointing eyeshadow palettes, Stay Perfect (Mini) Trio Eye Shadow Palettes - Cappuccino, Twilight and Beside The Sea.

The pencils that came in this boxset are smaller versions of those in the normal range. The regular ones retail for £7.75 / € 7.95 per piece and come complete with a smudger at the other end. I have here 05 Black and 10 Brown. One's a matt black and the other, a lovely taupey brown with very subtle shimmer.

Ingredients

So, here's what I think:

Once properly warmed up, they go on fairly creamy and the pigmentation is all right. They are quite easy to smudge out for a smokey look.

While they aren't faded by the end of the day, I can't say they are terribly durable. On my lids, they show early signs of creasing within two hours. When used to tightline, most of it is gone by midday. They aren't waterproof, so they do smudge if you have watery eyes or say, after a short walk in the rain.

The good thing about these pencils is that they are hypoallergenic, so ladies with sensitive eyes would probably find these agreeable.

Personally, I can't give the Amazing Eyes Pencils the thumbs up. To those ladies who love them, good for you! I don't think these pencils were made for my kind of eyelids. On a couple of occasions, I actually ended up with mildly racoon eyes by evening. Not a pretty sight.

Teeez: Bold Eyeliner Pencils Review

These have got to be the funkiest-looking eyeliner pencils I've ever had but I'm telling you, the Teeez Bold Eyeliner Pencils are much more than just visually pleasing.

I like these pencils. They go on nice, smooth and creamy. Best of all, they are smudgeproof and waterproof, which is ideal for inward-folding eyelids like mine.

These pencils are from Teeez's Boudoir Secrets collection and I have here three shades:

Top to bottom:
Sexy 12 - black
Outta Control 08 - violet
Rebel 09 - orange

Teeez says (excerpts):
Twelve seductive shades to accentuate your eyes. The Bold Eyeliner Pencil is waterproof! Creamy texture for smooth application and comfortable wear. Quick drying and long lasting due to the waterproof formulation, no caking or streaking. Fragrance free.....

I did a quick eye look using only these three eyeliner pencils and the Teeez Full & Flirty Volume Mascara that was released by the brand in a previous collection called Diva's Darkness. All four products were kindly provided by Teeez.

Here, I used the eyeliner pencils as both eyeshadows and eyeliners. The eyeliners do dry quite quickly once applied, so I did have to work very quickly to smudge out the colours with my fingers.

The main purpose of this eye look was really to give an idea of how longlasting the eyeliners are. The photo on the right was taken about five hours later and as you can see, the colours haven't budged. The most critical section is the inner one-third of my eyes as that's the area most susceptible to creasing. Well, I certainly can't complain here (the eyeliners actually lasted longer than five hours on me).

Truth be told, these eyeliners are coming close to dethroning my absolute favourite range of eyeliner pencils - GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liners. These by Teeez are a tad kinder on the wallet too. Retail price: €4.79 (Net wt. 1.5g).

Stila: Convertible Eye Color Review

I got this a couple of years ago, in my early beauty awakening days when I was all starry-eyed about makeup. Unfortunately, newer additions to my makeup collection pushed this Convertible Eye Color further and further into the back of my drawer.

I dug it out again and have been showing it some love lately. I was so sure that it would have been discontinued by Stila by now but I was suitably surprised to find out that it's still available, as per their website. I don't even remember now how much I paid for it, so I got this information from their website: Price - USD22. Contents - eyeliner: 0.007 oz / 0.2 g, eyeshadow: 0.007 oz / 0.2 g

According to Stila
This versatile, dual-ended eye color wand is a sleek, pen-shaped makeup ace that has an eye pencil on one end and a smudging tool on the other. Twist the middle and there you have the perfect coordinating eye shadow ready for application.

Perfect for the Stila girl who is looking for no mess, no fuss and no worry color-coordinated lids in a flash!

Ingredients
Eyeshadow
mineral oil (paraffinum liquidum), dipentaerythrityl tetrahydroxystearate / tetraisostearate, sorbitan isostearate, methylparaben, propylparaben, tocopherol, mica, synthetic fluorophlogopite, talc, iron oxide (ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499), titanium dioxide (ci 77891), ultramarines (ci 77007), ferric ferrocyanide (ci 77510)

eyeliner
ethylhexyl palmitate, triethylhexanoin, ozokerite, euphorbia cerifera (candelilla) wax/candelilla cera, microcrystalline wax/cera microcristallina, polyethylene, dipentaerythrityl tetrahydroxystearate/tetraisostearate, sorbitan isostearate, hydrogenated polyisobutene, tocopherol, mica, silica, talc, titanium dioxide (ci 77891), iron oxide (ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499), ferric ferrocyanide (ci 77510), ultramarines (ci 77007), manganese violet (ci 77742), carmine (ci 75470)

The Three Parts
Eyeliner
It is an eye pencil that can be twisted up and down. It is fairly soft, creamy and very easy to apply. So, there is little tugging involved here.

It is easily smudgable, which essentially means we're looking at an eyeliner and eyeshadow in one. It's partially waterproof, I've noticed. If it's a light application, it's easy to remove with normal eye makeup remover. If it's thickly applied and with an eyeshadow primer as a base, it would be better to use waterproof eye makeup remover.

It does crease within an hour or two but using an eyeshadow primer would delay that by about another three hours. It smudges a bit at the end of the day.

The one I have has a hint of shimmer. There is a reminder by Stila to always turn down the pencil portion of the pen before putting the cap back on. This would prevent breakage.

Eyeshadow
This is revealed by unscrewing the middle section. One portion has a stubby sponge applicator and the other is the well that contains the powder eyeshadow.

It can be a bit messy here with eyeshadow fallout. This eyeshadow definitely needs an eyeshadow primer as otherwise, it just disappears before you even get to your lipstick. Thumbs down.

It is a shimmery eyeshadow.

Smudger

On the oppposite end of the eyeliner, you'll find the smudging sponge. I tend to use it for its intended purpose and ocassionally, I'd use my fingers to smudge the eyeliner. It's a decent smudger but it gets dirty very quickly from the dark colour of the eyeliner. I wash it regularly in my attempt to keep it clean (pictured is the just-washed smudger).

As a Whole
The Convertible Eye Color feels light in the hand. The one I have is in Forest. The eyeliner portion is an olive green shade and the eyeshadow is a beige/champagne colour that takes on a golden tint on my eyes.

The Stile Convertible Color wands are available in a total of ten colour combinations. The eyeliners are dark shades and the eyeshadows are light-coloured.

Conclusion
Versatile indeed! It's a very convenient multi-purpose product that has:

• an eyeliner, plus
• two eyeshadows - a dark one (the eyeliner through smudging) and a light-coloured powder eyeshadow.

Image right: Eye look with just the eyeliner portion. I'll probably do one or two proper eye looks later with this product.

It's a clever product, no doubt. It's just a pity that:

• the eyeliner creases quite easily (needs eyeshadow primer)
• the eyeliner is not fully waterproof
• the eyeliner does smudge by the end of the day
• the eyeshadow has no staying power (an eyeshadow primer helps just a little bit)

I know that after reading this, you won't want to buy this Convertible Eye Color. My personal conclusion about this product will go against the grain: Since I already have it, I might as well make the best use of it. So, despite its shortcomings, I'm won over by its versatility and convenience. Its problems can be solved to some extent with the use of a good eyeshadow primer.

There is room for improvement and well, frankly, it would be great if Stila could also include a mascara somewhere in the product!

If only that were possible.......

GOSH: Eye Look With Metallic Brass

For neutral looks, it’s always the usual blacks and browns, but it can get monotonous after a while. One way to spice up such a look without venturing too far from your comfort zone would be to use a very dark olive green/brown.

For this, I highly recommend the much loved Metallic Brass from GOSH. I will tell you now that Metallic Brass is my favourite, my very favourite, my very very favouritest eyeliner.

Slight digression: I forget now who it was but someone once mentioned it and I agree wholeheartedly that GOSH should consider making a nail polish called Metallic Brass.

The Velvet Touch Eye Liners from GOSH are not only affordably priced but they are also longlasting and are waterproof. There are many colours in its range but Metallic Brass is the one I find most intriguing. It’s a dark olive green/brown with fine gold shimmer specks. Neutral with pizazz.

I use it to line my eyes after I’ve applied eyeshadow but more often than not, I like to just use Metallic Brass as the sole source of colour on my eyes. It’s a quick and easy look and as it is a pencil eyeliner, it’s much more convenient to apply than with a liquid eyeliner.

For this look, I used:

Top to bottom:
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner in Metallic Brass
Stila Smudge Pots gel eye liner in Black
GOSH Wonder Volume Mascara in Black

1. Draw on a very thick line of Metallic Brass. Do a thick but gentle wing.
2. Smudge slightly the upper edge of the thick line with a sponge-tip applicator.
3. Tightline with the gel eye liner (alternatively, tightline with Metallic Brass).
4. Curl lashes and apply mascara.

Leave the lower lash line totally bare so that the thick line of Metallic Brass stands out even more.

This is my favourite look when I’m short of time (and that’s often!). Give it a go. Eye looks don’t always have to involve eyeshadows.

Teeez: Hot Pink Eye Look

After that electric blue eyeliner look I tried with NOUBA a couple of weeks back, I thought I'd go bright, pink and metallic this time. As is usual of me, it's nothing complicated.

I used:
L-R
Teeez Liquid Eyeliner in Smooth (No. 10)
Stila Smudge Pots gel eye liner in Black
GOSH Wonder Volume Mascara in Black

It's really as easy as just applying the bright pink liquid eyeliner quite thickly, precisely in the eyelid fold area (in my case). Wing it. Then tightline with the black gel eyeliner. Curl lashes and apply mascara.

An eyeshadow-less eye look. I did say it was easy (and lazy)!

The bright pink liquid eyeliner from Teeez is my new acquisition from the drugstore. I'll probably do a review on it in due course.

That electric blue eyeliner:
NOUBA: Rainbow Eye Liner

NOUBA: Rainbow Eye Liner

NOUBA loves vivid colours. But of course, why wouldn't it? The creator of NOUBA was inspired by the Nuba people of Sudan who are skillful face and body painters.

So, the use of the word Rainbow in the name here certainly isn't out of sync. It really does offer a plethora of colours in its range of liquid eyeliners. Some are subdued (black, brown) and some of loud (super hot pink). Some have shimmer/glitter and some are matte.

I got one somewhere in between, a matte blue with a bit of sheen. When it comes to colours on the eyes, I tend to have a thing for blue. I won't pretend that I don't know where this obsession stems from. I blame it purely on having spent too many years using coral+brown+black on my eyes (in Witoxicity-speak: my dull, pre-beauty awakening era).

No. 17 is the number given to this blue. Here's what NOUBA says about the Rainbow Eye Liner:
Interesting combination and incredible variety of colours that allow to characterize and personalize the make up of the eye with a special eye liner. The perfect adhesion of the product, the exact softness of the brush and the great simpleness of application, make of this eye liner a product unique in its line.

The eyeliner costs around €16.90 for 5ml. I'm not able to establish exactly how many colours there are in the Rainbow Eye Liner range (the stores that I've come across don't always have the full range, and there is no indication of it on the website either).

Ingredients
Please click to enlarge.

The Brush
The brush is quite fine, but don't expect to get a super-fine line with it. I do find that it draws on moderately thick. However, if you want to wing it, it's still possible. The black brush handle has a good grip. It feels rubbery (think NARS).

The Eyeliner Liquid
The liquid does take a while to dry on the lid. I tend to have problems with it in the inner corner of the eye due to the way my eyelid folds (inwards). Sometimes, it smudges despite my waiting for it to dry with my eye closed (and not to mention, looking very elegant while at it).

This brings me to my next point. It's not waterproof. So, it will smudge if in contact with dampness or if you have watery eyes. Under normal (dry) circumstances, it does stay put for more than half a day, in my case. At the end of the day, there is a tiny bit of flaking.

My first impression when I got the eyeliner was that the contents seemed dry, just from looking through the packaging (image: notice the crack in the contents). Luckily, I haven't had the experience of pulling out a dry brush so far in the last few weeks I've been using it.

Something trivial: It's not obvious unless you hold the brush to your nose - it smells rather like baby powder.

Just a hint of eyeshadow: NARS Demon Lover
Eyeliner: NOUBA Rainbow Eye Liner No. 17
Mascara: GOSH Wonder Volume Mascara

Last Words
I do think it is pricey for an eyeliner that is not cast-iron lasting (there are less expensive colourful alternatives on the market). Then again, a high-end makeup brand is how NOUBA has chosen to position itself as, however justified or unjustified it is. Personally, I'm still ambivalent about the brand, after having tried its Plumping Gloss Stick lipstick and this eyeliner. That being said though, I think I will always be fascinated by the rainbow colours that so characterises this brand.

I bought this eyeliner from ICI Paris XL. NOUBA is also available in some (larger) Douglas stores.

GOSH: Eye Look With Funky Violet And Purple Stain

A look done with only two eyeliner pencils and a mascara. It's simple and yet, it stands out because of the vivid blue-violet.

I used the following for this look:

L-R
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner (Funky Violet)
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner (Purple Stain)
GOSH Wonder Volume Mascara (not shown)

To me, Purple Stain looks violet. When applied thickly, it comes across as a blue-violet. With a thin, smudged out layer, it looks purple-violet. On the other hand, Funky Violet looks plummy. It's funny how brands name their colours sometimes.

Getting this look:
Top lid
1. Colour thickly the eyelid fold with Purple Stain and smudge out the edges with finger. Do it quick as the colour dries fast on the lid.
2. Lightly apply Purple Stain in the area above the intense colour of Step 1, and on the outer corner of the eye. Again, smudge the edges with finger.
3. Line and tightline with the plum shade of Funky Violet. Wing it. Smudge the wing slightly where it meets Purple Stain.

Bottom lid
4. Line the inner half/three-quarters with Purple Stain and the outer half/three-quarters with Funky Violet.

5. Curl lashes and apply two coats of mascara.

I'm not terribly fond of using too many products for my looks, so for this one, I totally meant it when I said that it's simple.

GOSH: Velvet Touch Eye Liner Review

It's funny when I think about it. For many years, I never owned a single eyeliner. Not pencil, not liquid, never even heard of gel!

So, isn't it weird that I now have these to show you?!

These are all from GOSH. The first GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner that I bought about a year ago was in the shade Metallic Brass and I remember being very taken by the gorgeous, unusual colour. Other colours gradually followed as there were often enticing deals to be had at Kruidvat. That's the Dutch drugstore chain that stocks GOSH Cosmetics products.

For the longest time, I never had any plans to write a review on these eye liner pencils. It seemed to me that GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liners have been featured and swatched to death on the internet. In fact, my measly lot of eight here is nothing compared to what some others have. I've however had a change of mind recently when I realised that I was using these pencils more and more in the eye looks that I feature here. So, I suppose it would make sense to share my quick thoughts on these pencils.

The Basics
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liners are available in twenty-odd shades, which is a mind-boggling range to choose from. Price: €6,49 each, 1.2g / 0.04 oz US.

According to GOSH
• Extremely waterproof and durable
• Fantastic colour pigmentation
• Contains vitamin E and jojoba oil
• Contains no perfume

In order to protect the pencil from drying out it is most important to put the cap on the pencil again after use.

Ingredients

My Thoughts
Texture
These pencils are creamy and quite soft, allowing for easy application. There is a little dragging, but nothing too annoying. Because of the softness, one has to be careful not to press too hard especially if the tip is sharp. It might break at the tip.

Durability
Before it dries on the skin, you can still smudge it a bit, but do it quick. Once dried, it stays put. Personally, I find using the finger to smudge to be easier than using a brush or a sponge-tip applicator. I love it that it is waterproof. It doesn't fade or smudge. It resists creasing for a reasonable period of time - in my case, I see the first signs of minor creasing in the inner corner after six to seven hours. That's good enough for me.

Tightline
I do use it to tightline. I may have used it once for my waterline, but my eyes didn't like it that much.

Swatches
These Velvet Touch Eye Liners are very pigmented, but I can comment on only the dark/dark-ish shades that I have.

Pencil Shavings
My friend, Gail of ooglemakeup, loves this eyeliner pencil too. If my memory serves me correctly, I think I had chosen Metallic Brass in my first ever GOSH purchase based on Gail's recommendation in one of her Youtube videos a long time ago. I believe it was also Gail from whom I got the tip about picking up the colour from the pencil shavings, to be used on the eye. Waste not, right?

I thought I'd demonstrate how much you'd waste from throwing away the shavings. Shown on the right is what you'd get from one round of sharpening. I smudged out the shaving of Black Ink with my finger and I got this one-inch-diameter patch of intense colour. That's not bad at all!
A note however: If you haven't used your pencil for a long time and you're now sharpening it, it's best to throw the shavings away. They say, the best way to sanitise your eyeliner pencil is by sharpening it.

Removal
Obviously, as it's waterproof, you'd need to use an oil-based eye makeup remover to wash it off.

Conclusion
These eyeliner pencils are close to perfect. They would be perfect if they resisted creasing for several more hours. They're reasonably priced for the quality you're getting (get them when they are on offer). I love the amazing range of colours available. Metallic Brass and Funky Violet are my personal favourites.

This is the simple eye look that I wore yesterday. Only two products were used: GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner in Black Ink (a matte black) and GOSH Wonder Volume Mascara. I suppose this look would work best for Oriental eyelids.

I will feature more eye looks later using these eyeliner pencils, with more detailed description of the individual colours.
