Look: Fallen Leaves

This is the look I wore the other day. It's, as usual, a very easy look.

Note: The links given in this post would direct you to my previous reviews/features (including swatches) of those products.

I used the following four products for the eyes:

Eyes
Catrice Made to Stay Long Lasting Eyeshadow - Lord Of The Blings(metallic beige)
Catrice Made to Stay Long Lasting Eyeshadow - Metall Of Honor (metallic khaki brown/brass)
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner - Black Ink
Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky Lash Mascara - Waterproof Extra Black

With a narrow flat brush, I applied the two Catrice cream eyeshadows - brass on the entire lid fold and metallic beige on the inner quarter. I deliberately didn't fade out the edges. I then lined and tightlined with GOSH Black Ink and applied two coats of mascara. The bottom lash line was left bare except for a bit of mascara.

These two eye photos were in fact taken indoors and about three hours after application. The Catrice cream eyeshadows looked pretty much as good as when freshly applied. No eyeshadow primer was used.

Jane Iredale: PureMoist LipColour Review

I ordered this lipstick online and chose this shade called Nicole based solely on visuals of the lipstick on various websites: Jane Iredale's and a few online retailers. I couldn't find any colour descriptions! The Jane Iredale PureMoist LipColour is available in 26 shades, so you can imagine how long I had to spend online to make this one decision on the colour.

When I received it, I thought it looked like my PUPA Diva's Rouge lipstick in Euphoria Red. I really didn't need a repeat.

Thankfully, I was mistaken. The two shades may look similar at first glance - coral tomoato-ey red - but the one from PUPA's is perkier and opaque and Jane Iredale PureMoist LipColour in Nicole is a semi-sheer coral red. It's definitely not overpowering. It's what I would call a sweet shade, the kind that imparts just enough colour to give you a healthy look. Viewed upclose, this lipstick has fine golden specks of shimmer which I didn't think were conspicuous when applied on the lips.

According to Jane Iredale
You'll love the way your lips feel! Our state-of-the-art liposome formula packs in moisture, color and staying power. With 26 fashion shades to choose from, ranging from matte to shimmer, you're bound to find your perfect colors.
• No FD&C dyes or synthetic preservatives
• Conditioning, moisturizing formula is designed to be a drink for your lips
• Contains antioxidants
• Delicious mint/vanilla flavor

Ingredients
Castor Seed Oil, Isopropyl Jojobate, Zinc Oxide (CI 77947), Jojoba Esters, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Candelilla Wax, Carnauba Wax, Beeswax, Grape Seed Extract, Peppermint Leaf Extract, Vanillin, Borage Seed Oil, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Bisabolol.
May Contain: Mica (CI 77019), Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77489, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Carmine (CI 75470), Red 30 Lake (CI 73360), Red 7 Lake (CI 15850)(Aka 202)

Packaging
The lipstick comes in the usual Jane Iredale gold packaging. It certainly looks classy.

Scent
Pleasant and vanillic. I detect no minty scent in this one.

SPF
It has natural sunscreen - zinc oxide. It's a lipstick with SPF 18. Good, no?

Moisturising
It applies like a good lipbalm and yes, it is as moisturising as a lipbalm. If you've read enough of my posts, you'd know that I have ridiculously dry lips and I usually need to use a lipbalm before applying lipstick. There have been a few exceptions, I've discovered, such as NARS Dolce Vita. With Nicole, it's direct application on bare lips and I'm good to go. It lasts about as long as any good lipbalm.

Price
USD20.00 for 3.4g / 0.12oz. With the help of a friend in the UK, I bought mine from Musthave. Price: £14.00.

Final Words
It's a moisturising lipstick with SPF. I love it! Give the PureMoist LipColour a shot if you have the chance. It would be a lot easier to choose a shade if you have a beauty salon near you which sells Jane Iredale products. Choosing a shade online is a pain.

This is a look I've done with the ELLIS FAAS Autumn Set 2011, mixed with some other products from this brand. I've also used one of the Lights on the inner corners of the eyes and a bit on the lashes (the latter is totally optional, of course).

Jane Iredale: PureGloss For Lips Review

Our tingly mint and ginger flavor plumps without chemicals. In a base of organic vegetable oils, we've added botanicals including extracts of green tea, grape seed and pomegranate, all powerful antioxidants. No petroleum-based ingredients to dry out your lips.

• Only the highest quality natural ingredients used to provide staying power, moisture and nourishment to the lips

~ According to Jane Iredale (excerpts)

I would rank this Jane Iredale PureGloss quite high on the sticky scale. It's a hair magnet.

Wait! I'm not saying I hate this lipgloss.

First of all, here's the list of ingredients:

Bis-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Grape Seed Extract, Jojoba Esters, Green Tea Leaf Extract, Ginger Root Oil, Pomegranate Extract, Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Soybean Oil, Flavor, Tocopherol, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Bisabolol.

May Contain: Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Carmine, Red 30 Lake, Red 7 Lake.

The very first ingredient, that unpronounceable, intimidating-sounding name, is really just a skin-conditioning agent. The rest on the list look pretty good, no? The Skin Deep Cosmetics Database has given the Jane Iredale PureGloss a low score of 2 (for those unfamiliar with this - the lower the score, the better/safer). Sure, there are others with even lower scores of 0 and 1, but 2 isn't that bad - there are lipglosses from other brands with scores of 8 and 9.

Secondly, like most lipglosses, this one keeps lips from drying out. More than that, it's a moisturising lipgloss and it stays on the lips for many hours (I repeat, it's sticky). Of course, there is some transfer with eating and drinking but in my experience, with a good application, it is possible to go almost the whole day without re-applying.

Thirdly, I like the practical packaging - I don't foresee a problem getting the last bits of the lipgloss out later on. Just squeeze, minimal wastage.

I am ambivalent about the following four aspects though:

• Scent
The lips do feel tingly and minty cool for the first 15 minutes after application. It smells of mint gone dull, if that makes sense. It's like chewing gum-minty minus the sugary sweetness. I feel like it's missing something. Perhaps it's the influence of the ginger root oil in the mix.

• Texture
The lipgloss is very thick and (have I mentioned it already?) it's sticky. Not much is needed to get that juicy gloss effect, so it's possible to avoid the heavy feel.

• Plumping
Thin lips? Try PureGloss. I know my lips aren't exactly screaming for a lip plumper but this PureGloss does plump the lips up a bit.

• Pricey
Price: USD20. Net wt. 5ml / 0.17 fl oz. It's quite pricey for a lipgloss but I try to see the good side - quality and organic ingredients (I'd like to think that I can trust Jane Iredale on this), does not contain petrolatum (some cheap lipglosses do), paraben-free and it's moisturising and longlasting.

These lipglosses are available in around 20 shades. Mine is in the shade Hazelnut, a sheer caramel-coloured gloss densely packed with specks of golden shimmers. It's good for a juicy nude-look, if you're into that. I prefer using it on top of a matte lipstick shade. I'm wearing it here with NARS Morocco.

I don't think Hazelnut is the most attractive colour in the PureGloss range. I'll have to get a better shade next time. You might want to check out the other prettier shades.

Look: Riot Of Colour

Okay, the title does sound rather hilarious. It's neither the face nor the eye look that is a riot of colour. It's just the outfit, a borrowed title.

Still, the eye look is admittedly slightly more colourful than my usual.

For this look, I used:

L-R: Teeez Silk Fantasy Smooth 11, NARS Demon Lover Duo, GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner Purple Stain

Eyes
Too Faced Shadow Insurance
Teeez Silk Fantasy Eyeshadow Smooth 11 - bright frosty pink
NARS Duo Eyeshadow Demon Lover - blue & indigo
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner Purple Stain
GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner Black Ink
Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara

For the eyes:
Upper lids
Pink eyeshadow on inner half
Blue eyeshadow on outer half
Indigo eyeshadow above the blue
Purple Stain as eyeliner
Black Ink for tightline

Lower lids
Pink eyeshadow as lining on inner one-third
Indigo eyeshadow on outer two-thirds
Purple Stain lining on the indigo eyeshadow

Curled lashes and applied mascara

Look: Batwing With Chartreuse

This was the makeup that I wore the other day.

For the eyes, it's a neutral look with the Jane Iredale Daytime Eye Shadow Kit. I used two shades of brown as the base colours and the black stretched out at the outer corners. The eyeshadows were applied with a sponge-tip applicator. Eye images were taken indoors.

I used:

Eyes
Jane Iredale Lid Primer - Lemon

Jane Iredale Daytime Eye Shadow Kit
- dark brown in the lid folds (Dark Suede, palette: second from right)
- medium brown above the dark brown (Almond, palette: second from left)
- black elongated in the outer corners (Charcoal, palette: rightmost)

Jane Iredale Eye Pencil - Basic Black (and with Charcoal eyeshadow over it)

Josie Maran GOGO Instant Natural Volume Argan Mascara

Jane Iredale: Smokey Grey Eye Look

It's a smokey look today using mostly Jane Iredale products.

I used:

L-R
Jane Iredale PurePressed Triple Eye Shadow - Silver Lining
Jane Iredale Eye Highlighter Pencil (optional)
Annabelle Smudgeliner - Armour (optional)
Jane Iredale Eye Pencil - Black/Grey
Rimmel Sexy Curves Mascara

L-R: Jane Iredale (JI) PurePressed Triple Eye Shadow in Silver Lining (dark grey, taupe, light grey with slight shimmer)
JI Eye Highlighter Pencil (swatch is a bit faded)
Annabelle Smudgeliner in Armour
JI Eye Pencil in Black/Grey

Here's what I did (using a sponge-tip applicator):

Upper lid
1. Applied eyeshadow primer (not shown).
2. Using Silver Lining: applied the taupe on the whole eyelid fold, the light grey in the inner corner and the dark grey in the outer corner. Blended.
3. Optional: Lined with the taupe of the Smudgeliner Armour.
4. Tightlined with the black/grey of the Jane Iredale Eye Pencil.

Lower lid
5. Applied a thick line with the taupe of Silver Lining.
6. Over that, applied a thinner line with the dark grey of Silver Lining.
7. Lined close to the lashes with the taupe of Smudgeliner Armour.
8. Optional: Used the white end of the Eye Highlighter Pencil on the inner quarter of the lower lid.

9. Curled lashes and applied mascara.

Mini review: Jane Iredale PurePressed Triple Eye Shadow - Silver Lining

As mentioned, the eyeshadow trio is composed of these powder shadows: a dark grey, a taupe and a light grey with subtle shimmer.

According to Jane Iredale:
• Gentle, safe for sensitive eyes and formulated with good-for-the-skin ingredients
• Crease-resistant and long-lasting
• May be applied wet or dry to compliment any look
• Great for shading, highlighting, contouring and lining

If anyone's interested, here's its list of ingredients (notice how short and sweet it is):

Mica, Boron Nitride, Dimethicone, Pine Bark Extract, Pomegranate Extract.
May Contain: Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, Carmine, Manganese Violet, Ultramarines, Chromium Oxide Greens.

The shadows applied silky smooth. The pigmentation is so-so, I thought, and you'll definitely need a primer. I have yet to try applying it wet. It's good that there isn't much eyeshadow fallout though, and I really like the sturdy, chique clamshell casing.

The Jane Iredale PurePressed Triple Eye Shadow also comes in ten other colour combinations, some more interesting than others. Individually, they retail for USD27 (for 2.8g). I got mine in a kit, which worked out to be a much, much better deal.

Jane Iredale: Eye Look II With Green Silk

After getting acquainted with Jane Iredale's Eye Gloss in Wine Silk and totally loving it, I decided to get myself another one. It was darned difficult choosing from the remaining seven available shades but in the end, I got something green. Haa, I kinda question my choice though. Too late.......musn't regret.

You know I like simple. For this look, I used:

L-R
Jane Iredale Eye Gloss - Green Silk
Jane Iredale Eye Pencil - Black/Grey
Stila Convertible Eye Color - Forest
GOSH Wonder Volume Mascara

All I did was apply Green Silk all over the lid, lined the upper lashline with the Black/Grey Eye Pencil and then applied a bit more of Green Silk over the eyelining. I used the olive green eyeliner portion of Stila Convertible Eye Color to line the outer two-thirds of the lower lashline. Curled lashes and applied mascara. Done!

Green Silk seems to have more shimmer than the burgundy of Wine Silk. It's a light silver green, a sage green. The finish of Green Silk reminds me a lot of the Lights of ELLIS FAAS but there are differences. Jane Iredale Eye Gloss is waterproof and longlasting. ELLIS FAAS Light is also longlasting but not waterproof. Light will stay put unless you rubbed your eyes quite a fair bit. I just thought this might be of interest to some of you.

Jane Iredale: Eye Look I

You might have noticed by now that I like smokey looks. My excuse would be that I'm a creature of habit, but my reason would be that I haven't got deep-set eyes. Smokey looks add the much needed depth.

I wore this look yesterday. It's an uncomplicated one using mainly Jane Iredale eye products. The simple gradation is light on the inner corner and darkest on the outer corner. I used:

L-R:
Jane Iredale Daytime Eye Shadow Kit
Jane Iredale Eye Gloss - Wine Silk
Jane Iredale Eye Pencil - Basic Black
GOSH Wonder Volume Mascara

The three colours used were:
• Off-white - Oyster, the leftmost shade from the Daytime Eye Shadow Kit
• Burgundy - Eye Gloss in Wine Silk (lightly swatched here)
• Black - Charcoal, the rightmost shade from the Daytime Eye Shadow Kit

You've seen this Eye Gloss before in a previous post. Then, I had deliberately applied it very thickly for high colour intensity. This time, the burgundy of the Eye Gloss doubled as an eyeshadow base too. I applied it very lightly on the inner corner and gradually darker towards the outer corner. After that, I added Oyster on the inner corner (also on the bottom) and Charcoal on the outer edge, leaving the burgundy of Wine Silk exposed in between.

I then lined the eyes and applied two coats of mascara. Simple!

I Love Thee: Jane Iredale Eye Gloss

Some of you may still remember that Jane Iredale was my first (makeup) love. I won’t bore you with the whole story again. If you’re interested, please read my Letter to Jane Iredale which not only explains a bit about me, but also tells in a nutshell what the Jane Iredale brand represents.

I’ve been using this eyeshadow quite a lot lately. Truly impressed, I am, and it definitely deserves a spot under the I Love Thee category (which, by the way, also features other Jane Iredale products). Something totally unrelated: The green nail polish will be featured here real soon.

I have a thing for maroons/burgundies, so it was no surprise that I chose to buy this shade called Wine Silk. Here's my review on the Jane Iredale Eye Gloss.

The Basics
The one thing that surprised me when I got the product was its size. Gosh, it’s unobtrusively small! Mind you, what I have here is not a sample size product. It comes in a tube with a short doe-foot applicator. It retails for USD15 and has a net weight of 4.3g / 0.15oz. The Jane Iredale Eye Gloss is available in eight shades.

According to Jane Iredale:
Eight silky shades add sparkle and absolute crease-resistance. There's a reason these are called "silks"! That's the way they go on, and that's the way they look on the lid. Smooth and luxurious, they won't crease or smear and will stay on until you take them off.

The Eyeshadow
The Eye Gloss is basically a creamy liquid eyeshadow. Despite its thick (but smooth) consistency, I’ve found it very easy to manage the colour intensity. As can be seen in the swatches, you can pile it on for a deep, rich burgundy, or you can fade it out for just a touch of colour. Drying time is moderately fast, but I do find that I have enough time to toggle with the colour before it dries on the lid.

Jane Iredale recommends using its various makeup brushes to apply, but I’ve been able to make do with my finger.

I can’t say that the Eye Gloss has a glossy finish, as the name suggests. It just leaves a sheen. In daylight, I can hardly detect the shimmer, but you will be able to see some bits of shimmer in the final image below taken with flash. The gloss remains featherlight on the lids, no matter how much is applied. No stiffness. No caking. No dryness.

Products used: Jane Iredale Eye Gloss in Wine Silk, Jane Iredale Eye Pencil in Basic Black, Majolica Majorca Mascara in Black

Here’s the best part. It does not crease till many, many hours later. I’ve had it on for nine hours before and, hey, it was still intact with no smudging or flaking. After eleven hours, I did however, notice a teeny tiny bit of creasing on the inner corner of my eye, but it's negligible. Again, no flaking, no smudging. Image right taken with flash eleven hours later.

This eyeshadow doesn’t come off easily with normal eye makeup remover. So, an oil-based one is advised.

One more very important and intriguing thing: its list of ingredients.

Dimethicone, Ethyl Macadamiate, Carnauba Wax, Tribehenin. May Contain: Iron Oxides, Carmine.

Short, sweet and simple. No fillers and no chemical preservatives. This product scored just 1 (out of 10) – meaning low hazard - in the Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database evaluation. So, if you have sensitive eyes/skin, you really should give this product a try.

Conclusion
Excellent pigmentation, lightweight, no noticeable creasing and no evils. Love, love, love! What an underhyped eyeshadow this is! I truly recommend it, ladies. I do wish though that it came in a slightly larger packaging.
