ELLIS FAAS: Eye Looks With Light VI

So, the news about ELLIS FAAS’ Winter Glow gift set for the holiday season 2010 has already been plastered all over the internet. Well, starting today, it's available for pre-order at a discount.

With the Winter Glow set, ELLIS FAAS suggests two ways of using its Light E305 and its Mascara E401: a dramatic party look and a subtle every day look.

For the party look, Ellis says (excerpts):

• Use the Light in holographic Bordeaux-green as an overall eye shadow. Apply liberally onto the eyelids and also underneath the eye in a bold shape. Soften the edges with your finger for a dramatic smokey eye.
• Apply the mascara in several coatings. Because the mascara stays flexible you can easily layer it and even curl the lashes afterwards - do wait a few minutes between layers.

Here’s my take on this. I added one more step: waterlining and tightlining my eyes with GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner in Black Ink. I applied four coats of the E401 Mascara in black.

For some reason, I couldn’t get E305 to look as burgundy-brown as it is in the photo on the Winter Glow gift set box (please see final photo at the bottom of this post). However, it is quite entertaining to see the holographic/duochrome effect of the E305, no?

A piece of advice: I know Ellis says to apply “liberally” but don’t go overboard and apply too many layers of the Light E305. After it has dried, it can flake off a bit due to the movement of the eyelids. Apply just enough and it would be fine.

For the subtle look, Ellis says (excerpts):

Use the Light as a highlighter – either over your usual eye shadow or on its own. Apply a dot in the middle of your eyelid and in the corner of your eye. Dab lightly.
• Use one coating of mascara for a natural look.

For this every day look, I aimed to (for want of a better word!) ‘extract’ more of the burgundy-brown. In order to have less of the metallic turquoise green, I first put the liquid shadow on the back of my hand and spread it around a tiny bit. I then lifted some colour with an eyeshadow brush (or finger), applied it on my eyelids and dabbed with finger to spread the colour. I find it easier to get to the burgundy-brown this way. On areas where you want the turquoise green, skip the back-of-the-hand step and just pack your brush/finger with E305 and apply.

As I have sad lashes, I applied three coats of the E401 Mascara. I lightly tightlined my upper lid with GOSH Velvet Touch Eye Liner in Black Ink.

For the benefit of those who haven’t read about ELLIS FAAS’ Winter Glow gift set, here it is. It consists of their three bestselling products:

Creamy Lips L101 (that’s the ooh-la-la Ellis Red)
Ellis Eyes Light E305 (holographic Bordeaux)
Ellis Mascara E401 (black)

This gift set is priced at €65 / £55/ USD90. Over here in Europe, that’s a savings of €15 compared to what you would pay for the individual items.

The Winter Glow gift set is now available for pre-order through the ELLIS FAAS online shop. I just found out this morning that the first 100 customers who pre-order this set will also be given a 7.5% discount over the whole order. The coupon codes: GlowNow or GlowFace.

WOW I haven't seen anything like this before. Looks interesting.

That's the problem with shadows that are powdered. If you apply too much of it, it can flake.

speaking of flake, i forgot to answer your question! lol. yup! my lip flakes particularly to gloss. :( i found a way to just have a little color in my lip by dabbing a little bit of red lipstick and lip veil!

that set looks lovely, btw. and it's a steal if there's a discount!

@London's-beauty
Ha ha, thanks! For all you know, I could have been looking at a big bag of yummy potato chips while taking those photos. Who knows! ;D

@Adorable On Your Vanity
Yeah, the Light E305 is indeed an interesting eyeshadow. :)

@Mara
Ah yes, the lip flakes! Well, it's good that you found a way round the problem.

You might have read before that the other ELLIS FAAS shadows (Creamy Eyes and Milky Eyes) don't flake or budge at all. On the other hand, the Lights, which are also liquid eyeshadows, leave a metallic layer ON the lid. So, the metallic layer may flake with over-applying. It's a different creature compared to the Creamy Eyes and Milky Eyes.

I hope you're having a good weekend, Mara! :)

Ooh holographic, that's so pretty! I don't see that too often for eyeshadows, and it's nice that you can smudge out the outer area for a smokey eye :)

I can't wait to try ELLIS FAAS cosmetics...

I have a color that could dupe this eyeshadow - TKB Trading's Chameleon Fine. costs $1,5. Price of the EF product is scary to me.

@Karen
Hi Karen! This Light is pretty versatile, but controlling the colour and the smudging does take some practice. It's certainly a fun eyeshadow/highlighter to experiment with. :)

@BeautyParler
Hi Monica! I remember that you mentioned a long time ago that you'd love to get your hands on some ELLIS FAAS shadows. I'm surprised that you haven't yet! As far as I know, ELLIS FAAS doesn't have a physical retail presence yet in Canada but the ELLIS FAAS online shop does ship to Canada. The shipping charges are reasonable. :)

@LiisK
I suppose Chameleon Fine is something similar but it is in powder form. The Light is a liquid shadow. The price of USD1.50 is indeed a fantastic bargain for a sample bag of one table- (or tea?)spoon. Thanks for the recommendation! I wouldn't be surprised if Fyrinnae has something similar too. :)

Very pretty looks! Each time you do a look with ELLIS FAAS, I just can't help but to stare and stare at it.

I think you would think I am so rude to stare...LOL!

It's a tablespoon - quite a large pile. It can also be used as a dupe for MAC's Blue Brown (though to me the base seems to be a tad more orange on the TKB version)

Thank you, Dina! :)

@Thess
Thess!!! Wat ben je lang weg geweest! Ik hoop dat alles goed is met je. Met mij gaat het redelijk goed hoor. Het is heel leuk om je weer hier te zien! Een fijne dag verder! :D

@Vonvon
Ah, my dear, you amuse me! I did wonder.....why my eyes were itching this morning. ;D Seriously, thank you for your lovely words. I appreciate it a lot as the compliment comes from someone who's such a pro at eye looks! :)

@LiisK
Hi again, LiisK! Thanks for the info. MAC's Blue Brown! Yes, someone did point out to me once before that it's similar. And so, we have three. :)

So pretty! The Light in holographic Bordeaux-green reminds me of MAC Club e/s that I recently picked up.

Thanks, my dear. Oh, another possible dupe, I see! :)
