I Love Thee: Jane Iredale Eye Gloss

Some of you may still remember that Jane Iredale was my first (makeup) love. I won’t bore you with the whole story again. If you’re interested, please read my Letter to Jane Iredale which not only explains a bit about me, but also tells in a nutshell what the Jane Iredale brand represents.

I’ve been using this eyeshadow quite a lot lately. Truly impressed, I am, and it definitely deserves a spot under the I Love Thee category (which, by the way, also features other Jane Iredale products). Something totally unrelated: The green nail polish will be featured here real soon.

I have a thing for maroons/burgundies, so it was no surprise that I chose to buy this shade called Wine Silk. Here's my review on the Jane Iredale Eye Gloss.

The Basics
The one thing that surprised me when I got the product was its size. Gosh, it’s unobtrusively small! Mind you, what I have here is not a sample size product. It comes in a tube with a short doe-foot applicator. It retails for USD15 and has a net weight of 4.3g / 0.15oz. The Jane Iredale Eye Gloss is available in eight shades.

According to Jane Iredale:
Eight silky shades add sparkle and absolute crease-resistance. There's a reason these are called "silks"! That's the way they go on, and that's the way they look on the lid. Smooth and luxurious, they won't crease or smear and will stay on until you take them off.

The Eyeshadow
The Eye Gloss is basically a creamy liquid eyeshadow. Despite its thick (but smooth) consistency, I’ve found it very easy to manage the colour intensity. As can be seen in the swatches, you can pile it on for a deep, rich burgundy, or you can fade it out for just a touch of colour. Drying time is moderately fast, but I do find that I have enough time to toggle with the colour before it dries on the lid.

Jane Iredale recommends using its various makeup brushes to apply, but I’ve been able to make do with my finger.

I can’t say that the Eye Gloss has a glossy finish, as the name suggests. It just leaves a sheen. In daylight, I can hardly detect the shimmer, but you will be able to see some bits of shimmer in the final image below taken with flash. The gloss remains featherlight on the lids, no matter how much is applied. No stiffness. No caking. No dryness.

Products used: Jane Iredale Eye Gloss in Wine Silk, Jane Iredale Eye Pencil in Basic Black, Majolica Majorca Mascara in Black

Here’s the best part. It does not crease till many, many hours later. I’ve had it on for nine hours before and, hey, it was still intact with no smudging or flaking. After eleven hours, I did however, notice a teeny tiny bit of creasing on the inner corner of my eye, but it's negligible. Again, no flaking, no smudging. Image right taken with flash eleven hours later.

This eyeshadow doesn’t come off easily with normal eye makeup remover. So, an oil-based one is advised.

One more very important and intriguing thing: its list of ingredients.

Dimethicone, Ethyl Macadamiate, Carnauba Wax, Tribehenin. May Contain: Iron Oxides, Carmine.

Short, sweet and simple. No fillers and no chemical preservatives. This product scored just 1 (out of 10) – meaning low hazard - in the Skin Deep Cosmetic Safety Database evaluation. So, if you have sensitive eyes/skin, you really should give this product a try.

Conclusion
Excellent pigmentation, lightweight, no noticeable creasing and no evils. Love, love, love! What an underhyped eyeshadow this is! I truly recommend it, ladies. I do wish though that it came in a slightly larger packaging.

They say; Good things come in small packages. Or in this case: tiny packages. It looks lovely on you. And your pictures are great as always!

Also wanted to thank you for your comments yesterday. I always love reading your comments, you are so nice and funny. Yesterday I was feeling a bit under the weather and your comments really cheered me up!

Thanks for the great swatches and review. It is a pretty shadow, but I'm not liking the packaging at all.
I can totally see myself cutting it open trying to get every last bit of gloss out of it.
Also unrelated..
Is it weird that I was racking my brain trying to identify that lovely green polish before even scrolling down to read about the featured product? Oh well.

@London's-beauty
Thanks. I'm actually thinking of getting more of these! :)

@Polishsis
Thank you so much for your positive words, my friend. And you're right! That 'good things come in small packages' expression certainly applies here!

It's always fun to read your blog (and gawk at your nails and nail polishes), so really, the pleasure's all mine! I'm glad that in doing so, I'd helped to brighten up your day a bit. I hope you're well by now. :)

@LipGlossGossip
I'm pleased you like this eye colour. :)

@Colleen
I quite agree about the packaging. If you've seen other Jane Iredale products, the packaging for this Eye Gloss doesn't look quite as luxurious as the rest. I'm sure the Jane Iredale design team could do better!

That green polish? Coming soon, my dear, coming real soon. I'm putting it through its paces. :D

@Mademoiselle C.
Yeah, its mini size does mean it's very easy to carry around in the bag. I just have this mortal fear that, because it's so small, I might easily lose it when I take it out with me. Haha!

@BellasUnhaseCia
Thank you! There will be more about the nail polish in my next post. :)

@lavender
Hi, Lavender! Actually, the photos of my eye there weren't exactly eye looks. I deliberately used that one colour and applied it thickly so that the colour shows up well on camera, and of course, to demonstrate its "creasability".

For a proper eye look, I would use a lighter shade on the inner corner and this burgundy blended into the outer corner of the lid. I'm sure you can carry off this look! :)

Hi, I like maroons too. This one looks very pretty on you and 11 hours later it still looks gorgeous. It must be very good quality. I really have to try Jane Iredale. "KTee"

Hi! Jane Iredale is known for its quality (but rather pricey) products. Having said that however, I had a couple of complaints that I voiced in my Letter To Jane Iredale that I wrote last year. Still, I absolutely love its face products as they don't break me out. Give it a try if you have the chance. :)

@Dina
You're welcome. It's a tiny product that packs a punch! :D

@bhumika
Yes, indeed! :)

@Gail
Hi, Gail! There doesn't seem to be much written about this eyeshadow, unfortunately. It's a real pity.....

@Jessying
Hi, Jess! It's so nice of you to drop by! I remember when I first started using this product, I thought it was quite 'diluted'. I gave it another try and hey, the pigmentation was actually good! I probably wasn't using it right the first time. :D On the issue of accessibility, even I don't find it easy to get hold of Jane Iredale products. I think, in your case, you might want to look for it in Singapore, if you're interested. :)

That color looks lovely on your nails, and the eye gloss looks great as well. :-)

Hello! Thanks for dropping by and for your lovely comment. I'm so pleased that you like both products. Have a great weekend! :)

Wow! This is an interesting product. And you know what an eyeshadow addict I am. Got to hunt this down.

And I also like maroon/burgundy shade a lot, a color of class and elegance. Use them a lot for the evening, in makeup and also evening dresses (more towards royal purple for my dresses). :)

I love the richness of this color on you! You always work the smokey eye look so well. =D Its long wear span is almost unheard of!

Cynthia Z said...

That shade is so nice and rich...very fall/winter. I should pick up an eyeshadow like that now that's it's winter here. Good that it doesn't crease immediately.

♥xx♥

Witoxicity said...

@Vonvon
Oh yes, this is certainly another one to add to your eyeshadow collection! :D It's great that you can go as light or as intense as you want with this shade. It's perfect for an evening look. :)

@Shop N' Chomp
Thanks, my dear. I would classify this eye gloss as very good for its durability, but for excellent performance, it's got to be the ELLIS FAAS Creamy Eyes and Milky Eyes eyeshadows. :)

@Cynthia
Yeah, this rich shade is certainly very appropriate for fall/winter. However, it's still possible to wear it in other seasons too, just by reducing the intensity of the colour. :)

Lucy said...

Love that shade on you. Wish I could wear a shade like that. I have really dark circles even after a coverup. Just wearing that shade would make my eyes looking bruished.

Witoxicity said...

@Lucy
Thank you! Jane Iredale does offer Eye Glosses in other shades. There are lighter ones that you might like: Peach Silk, Lilac Silk and Champagne Silk. Anyway, the look that I did here is intense and exaggerated. It is possible to tone it down a bit. :)

Wow the colour looks amazing :)!!

It reminds me a bit of my Milani baked Eyeshadow in Coffee Shop but, this looks much more pigmented + its a cream. Thanks for posting the ingredients.

It's so cute. Btw your eye makeup looks so glamorous :)

@Mango and Fudge
My pleasure and thank you for your kind words! The colour is gorgeous, especially if you already love burgundies. :)
