Adorned Nails: KOH Meditate

KOH released its Winter Colours 2010 collection consisting of six shades some two months ago. The collection, called Zen, has of course polishes with names appropriate to the theme, like Peace (light brown), Harmony (dark brown), Spiritual (dark green), Wisdom (dark blue), Happinez (tomato-ish red).

And then, there is KOH Meditate. In simple description: a medium green. To be honest, I never felt drawn to this colour. I already had two other greens from KOH that were rather similar (KOH Jewel and another one to be featured later) and I wasn’t sure if Meditate would look good on my skintone. In fact, I was going to give the whole collection a miss but haaa, as fate would have it, the folks at KOH kindly sent me two bottles of polishes last week to review, one of which was Meditate.

Don't judge a nail polish by its number, I said the other day. Well, for Meditate I say, never judge a nail polish by its bottle. The bottle does absolutely no justice to this green. In the bottle, I see a murky, dirty, medium crème green.

So, imagine my surprise when I started polishing my nails with it. I was gravely mistaken! It’s not murky. It’s vivid. It’s not medium green. It’s actually a dark-ish green, not as dark as British Racing Green. At times, it looks like the dark green of jade. It’s a green that likes to trick the eye. It reveals a tiny bit of its blue tone when seen against a dark background. Against a light background, it shows some of its yellow tones.

Application was a breeze with this one. What you see here is with two coats on all nails except the middle finger. For the sake of experimenting, I did just one thick coat on that nail and achieved opacity. Drying time was all right.

I’ve been putting it through its paces since the weekend. To defy convention, I’m showing you the photos in reverse order, starting from Day 6 (this is the most colour-accurate of all the photos).

Day 6

Day 5 (with KOH's new faux-leather case)

Day 4

Day 3

Day 2
Not necessary.

Day 1

My experience with the durability of KOH polishes has been mixed so far but this one has fared quite well. You would have noticed some tip wear in the Day 6 photo but there were no signs of chipping at all. And I didn’t even use a top coat.

One last photo from Day 1, just for fun.

Hmmm, "No presumptions, free your mind," is what I think KOH's trying to tell me with Meditate.

ooh not bad, no chipping involved :}

The durability looks pretty good! Usually there's already chipping problem on just two or three days for some of my nail polishes.

I already knew I would like the color. But 6 days without a chip
and no top coat? That's pretty impressive.

@London's-beauty
No, it's not bad at all. :)

@Dina
I often have that same problem too. Many don't last beyond 2-3 days. :)

@Toesthattwinkle!
Hi! I'm glad you like this green. :)

@Denysia
That's great! Thanks, Denysia. :)

@liquoredonlacquer
Yes, it's quite impressive. :)

@Colleen
Hi, Colleen! Aaah, the mysterious green polish is finally revealed! ;) I'm relieved that it wasn't an anti-climax for you. :D

Gorgeous! I don't like light greens, this one is perfect. I think I will drop by Douglas today to see if it is still available.
Take care, Paula

I like!! Though I am a maroon and purple fan. It looks very pretty on your nails.

Very good idea that you show it's durability by taking photos every day.

@Paula
Haha! I feel quite the same way about light greens, Paula. Well, in general, I'm not too fond of greens, but I still buy some once in a while for the sake of variety. Good luck with getting your Meditate today! And try not to be put off by the green that you see in the bottle. It's so much more alive once on the nails. :D

@KTee
Oh, I see we both have the same taste in colours! I always gravitate towards maroons and purples (but I try to restrain myself these days - have too many of these colours already!). Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed this post, KTee. :)

"Zen-sational" color and case and "Zen-tastic" pics. I am in another dimension right now. ;)

If I may ask, what's the ceramic object you are holding? That's a beautiful color too.

Thnx
Karen

@Jennifer
Hoi, Jennifer! Bedankt voor je commentaar. Ik vind het ook een mooie kleur. Ik heb helaas op dit moment de andere kleuren uit deze collectie niet. :)

@Paulina
That's great! I'm pleased you like this. :)

@Karen
Haha! Thank you, or rather, "Zen" you, for your kind words. :D The ceramic object in the photos is a Chinese long neck vase with a bulbous bottom. I thought its green was quite appropriate here. :)
